Dealing With Stress At Work

Dealing With Work Stress

Question:

Hi Adam,

Thanks for sending your recent email with requests for help.

Can you give tips on how to help me clear my mind? I’ve recently taken on a job that has the most responsibility I’ve handled, and it’s been hard to stop thinking about work when I’m not at work. I’m suffering from burn-out, mental, and physical fatigue. I spent much time learning my new job outside of work hours. There was little training so I learned most things alone. I’ve been so consumed with doing a good job, I have difficulty disconnecting my mind from work topics, even when I should be relaxing at home.

I have a hard time sleeping as well due to racing thoughts. I know I should balance my life more with things that I enjoy. I’d also like to meditate regularly.

Thanks for any advice.

Response:

Hi,

I would say write out what your fears are. Sometimes fears can be mixed in with work related stuff which keeps are mind stuck in a kind of overdrive survival mode. Once you write out what you're afraid of, related to the job (if anything), then it can be easier to let go of the fears by seeing if they are helping you or not.

If possible, give yourself 20 minutes before work to give yourself a foundation of peace, or space. Rather than thinking about everything to do that day, see if you can invite the universe's thoughts instead. See if it's possible to set a soft intention to feel calm and clear-headed, perhaps invite the possibility of it. How would the cool, capable, inspired version of yourself look?  How would it feel to be in her skin? If you let yourself practice that, even if it's just a game to make yourself feel better, then gradually you will become that person.

As much as possible, let yourself access some kind of feeling of abundance within yourself. Make it unconditional, it does not have to be about anything specific, necessarily. How does abundance feel? How would it feel to have a sense of "more than enough"? The more you can access these energies, the more they will shift your reality for the better. Soon enough things start to become influenced by the energy you have decided to access from the INSIDE FIRST, and you will start to feel less negative reactions to things. Things don't need as much resistance as we tend to think.

It's all about no longer letting the world dictate how you feel. Decide how you want to feel first, and realise your inner world is actually more important than the outer one, since the inner creates the outer. Then the world responds to you instead of you responding to the world on an emotional level. I hope that makes sense. Try some of the things I mentioned and let me know how it goes.

All the best,

Adam
